Dubai Electricity and Water Authority Advances Hydropower Project

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has achieved 94.15% progress on its hydropower project in Hatta, set for trial operation in early 2025. The facility will utilize stored water from Hatta Dam and integrate solar energy.

The organization "Dewa" in Dubai announced yesterday about significant progress in the implementation of the hydro-electricity project in Hatta. According to the statement, at this moment the installation of generators is ongoing on-site in preparation for the expected launch in test mode in the first quarter of 2025.

Also completed is the filling of the upper reservoir stage, including the main plot with a height of 72 meters and the side plot with a height of 37 meters, as part of the preparation for the launch. The project utilizes water from the Hatta reservoir and the new upper reservoir.

It is expected that the capacity of the stage will be 250 megawatts with a reserve capacity of 1500 megawatt-hours and a lifespan of 80 years. The project is the first of its kind in the Persian Gulf, with the proposed investment cost being around 1.421 billion dirhams.

The mission of the project is to develop the Hatta region and support sustainable development, including the creation of innovative jobs for local residents.
