Celebrating Traditional Pottery in UAE

Traditional crafts are a key component of Emirati heritage. As part of the 2025 Year of Community, we honor the ancient craft of pottery in Ras Al Khaimah. Local artisans like Said Al Shihhi work diligently to pass down these skills to future generations, showcasing the importance of preserving this unique cultural legacy.

Celebrating Traditional Pottery in UAE

Within the framework of the announcement of the UAE 2025, the community in the country highlights the legacy of ceramics, which represents an important part of the emirate's cultural heritage. One of the oldest ceramics that our ancestors mastered is pottery. The masters of the UAE transformed clay into various objects that were used in everyday life.

Said ash-Shahi, a ceramics master, emphasizes that this craft he inherited from his ancestors, therefore he strives to preserve it as folklore and an authentic part of the past. Although with the development of life the need for ceramics has decreased, he continues to engage in this craft with new generations.

Said expresses his joy at the opportunity to preserve this heritage and teach others through interactive events, master classes, and participation in traditional festivals. He notes that interest in the study of ceramics is manifested not only by local residents but also by representatives of various nationalities.

Traditional ceramic production in the UAE is based on clay, mainly from the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah, which is considered the center of ceramic production in the country. One of the famous products is traditional clay pipes in traditional forms, symbolizing the Emirati identity.

As the master asserts, ceramics as a craft is becoming increasingly rare, but for him, it is a passion that he will pass on to new generations. Interest in studying this craft is growing not only among local residents but also among representatives of different nationalities in the country.
