
The Department of Civil Aviation of Sharjah and the global company 'Serco' announced the extension of the partnership agreement, guaranteeing that 'Serco' will continue to provide navigation services at Sharjah International Airport.
According to the issued statement, starting from 1947, 'Serco' has been the main provider of navigation services at Sharjah International Airport, ensuring safety and efficiency of air traffic. In accordance with the signed agreement, 'Serco' manages aviation information in Sharjah (AIM) and provides air traffic services (ATS), fostering trust, mutual agreement on the development of highly qualified aviation personnel under the management of Emirati leaders.
The development of cooperation between the Department of Civil Aviation of Sharjah and 'Serco' has significantly increased the share of Emiratis in the company, starting from a single Emirati air traffic controller in the Serco team in 2013 and reaching 48% of employees today. The first Emirati was appointed as an air traffic controller in Sharjah, which substantiates the success of localization programs and its positive impact on society.
Sheikh Khalifa bin Issam al-Qasimi, chairman of the Department of Civil Aviation of Sharjah, noted: “The cooperation with 'Serco' not only guarantees the effectiveness and safety of operations at Sharjah Airport but also contributes to the development of local talent, ensuring conditions for their professional growth and strengthening the aviation sector.”
General Director of 'Serco' in the Middle East Phil Malym expressed pride in the long-standing partnership with the Department of Civil Aviation of Sharjah, emphasizing the importance of innovation and training for the sustainability of the airport and its workforce. The cooperation between the Department of Civil Aviation of Sharjah and 'Serco' entails their commitment to support the aviation sector in Sharjah and the United Arab Emirates as a whole.
