
For the period of September of the current year, Shardzhiy Airport demonstrated stable growth in the spheres of aviation, tourism, and cargo transportation. It is particularly noteworthy that the number of passengers increased by 10% compared to the analogous period of the previous year, reaching 4.392 million people. In addition, the number of flights increased by 6.7%, reaching a record of 27,758 flights, operated by 35 airlines, reported WAM. In the third quarter, Shardzhiy Airport also processed 46,284 tons of cargo, indicating an annual growth of more than 32%. At the same time, the volume of air cargo transportation increased by 7.8%, reaching 3,236 tons.
According to the words of the chairman of the Shardzhiy Airport Administration, Ali Salim Al Midfa, Shardzhiy Airport continues to remain a significant participant in the fields of tourism, trade, and business, affirming Shardzhiy's position as a leading direction for these sectors. Positive dynamics contribute to strengthening the competitiveness of the airport and its position as a provider of premium services, and also helps to achieve the set goal - to become one of the five leading airports in the region. Al Midfa noted that the development plans for Shardzhiy Airport are aimed at ensuring world-class service levels, enhancing passenger and airline confidence, and also ensuring safe and comfortable travel thanks to innovative technologies and sustainable practices. According to WAM's report, the Shardzhiy Airport Administration plans to increase the passenger throughput capacity of the airport to 25 million passengers annually by the end of 2027. This is planned to be achieved through the realization of a new expansion project, which includes the updating of cargo areas.
