Adam Mosseri, the head of the Instagram platform, stated that the decision to extend the duration came in response to feedback from content creators who considered that 90 seconds was very short and insufficient to tell their stories.

This new step aims to grant users more time to express their creativity and share it on the platform. Instagram anticipates that extending the duration will help attract more high-quality and unique content.
