30th Sharjah International Chess Championship Begins

The 30th Sharjah International Chess Championship has kicked off with 246 players from 28 countries, including renowned grandmasters. The event, held under the patronage of Sheikh Sultan, will run until March 6.


30th Sharjah International Chess Championship Begins

The thirtieth Sharjah International Chess Tournament started last night on Tuesday. It was organized by the Sharjah Cultural Chess Club under the patronage of a member of the Supreme Council and the ruler of Sharjah – Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al-Qasimi. 246 chess players and chess players from 28 countries are participating. The competitions will last until March 6.

On the opening day of the tournament, the director of the department of sports services in Sharjah, Dr. Nabil Ashour, delivered a speech. At the solemn ceremony, representatives of the chess federation of the UAE, the Sharjah club, as well as members of the board of directors were present.

The first day of the championship was marked by fierce competition on the top boards. As a result of the third round, 20 participants scored the maximum number of points, including the grandmaster from Azerbaijan, the winner of the previous tournament from Tajikistan, and other masters from around the world.

Dr. Nabil Ashour expressed joy at the participation of many talented chess players, including young and experienced masters from all continents. He emphasized the important role of the Sharjah Cultural Chess Club in popularizing the game and organizing large-scale events with international participation.
