Sharjah to Host 'Guardians of the Images' Exhibition

The Sharjah Art Foundation is organizing the exhibition 'Guardians of the Images' from November 8, 2025, to April 26, 2026, at the Sharjah Art Foundation's Photographic Gallery. The exhibition features over 50 photographic works by 17 artists and artist groups drawn from the foundation's collection. The works shed light on the social and political scene over the past six decades, as well as the processes of modernization and decolonization, which were often rapid and fragmented. The exhibition's title is inspired by artist Zineb Sedira's work 'Guardians of the Images,' in which she highlights the personal effort required to preserve memory and continuously reshape it. The work addresses the complexities of the diaspora, starting from the pivotal role of women in preserving visual heritage and the role of the image as a witness and a tool of resistance. Among the artists in the exhibition are Amine Zbib, Bani Abidi, Bisma Charif, Heraire Sarkissian, Qader Atia, Hadjja Saeed, Latif Al-Ani, Rika Noguchi, Rashid Mahdi, Rola Halawani, Rashid Anwar, and Muhammad Kazim. The exhibition, as a whole, is a visual and emotional journey that spans continents and generations. It is curated by Giou Lee, Head of the Curators Department, and her assistants Nda Amaki and Osimodimen Ikorie, in collaboration with Thouria Kriede and Sheikha Al Mazrouei from the Collections Department. The exhibition will open at the Photographic Gallery on November 8.
