Sharjah Safari, affiliated with the Sharjah Environment and Natural Reserves Authority, has opened its fifth season with the announcement of the birth of the fifth African savanna elephant, in addition to the birth of a pair of ring-tailed lemurs. This achievement enhances the project's efforts in biodiversity conservation at the regional and global levels.
The African savanna elephant is one of the largest land mammals in the world, and its reproduction in "Sharjah Safari" is an indicator of the success of advanced biological breeding and veterinary care programs. Meanwhile, the birth of the ring-tailed lemur twins, classified as endangered and native to Madagascar, is a qualitative addition that reflects the safari's integrated environment.
During the second quarter of 2025, "Sharjah Safari" witnessed the birth of 184 newborns among various birds and mammals, increasing the total number of species it hosts to 151, including giraffes, lions, elephants, rhinos, alongside several rare bird species. This is a clear indication of the ecological balance that the project provides.
His Excellency Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, has a vision to make the emirate a global center for biodiversity conservation and wildlife preservation, which these achievements embody, confirmed by Hissaif Suwaidi, Chairman of the Sharjah Environment and Natural Reserves Authority.
It was stated that the new births reflect the success of the Authority's plans to protect endangered species and contribute to enhancing the environmental sustainability system, confirming the leading role that Sharjah plays regionally and internationally in wildlife conservation.
"Sharjah Safari" offers visitors an exceptional experience that simulates the African continent's environment through educational and recreational tours in open natural spaces, allowing them to get up close with wildlife and witness rare sights such as elephant and lemur births.
The project serves as an educational and research platform that helps raise environmental awareness among visitors, especially children and students, through awareness programs that reinforce concepts of sustainability and environmental responsibility.
