Following the success of the theatrical play 'Zeer Salem' during its shows in the capital Abu Dhabi, the audience was in for a treat to see the play at Al-Midjaz Theater in Sharjah, with three consecutive shows starting today. The production, presented under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, features a lineup of top artists, including the play's director Saloum Haddad, Basim Yakhour, Abed Fahd, and Emirati actress Amal Muhammad. The script was written by Othman Jahjah.
Adopting a contemporary theatrical vision that maintains its epic and poetic character, the play focuses on the internal conflict between the concepts of revenge and justice. The work re-enacts one of the most prominent epics in Arab heritage, addressing the events of the Basus War and tracing the character of 'Zeer Salem' in his struggle to avenge his brother Kulaib.
Syrian actor Saloum Haddad presents his first directorial experience in this work. Speaking in an interview with 'Emirates Today', Haddad spoke about this experience, saying: 'We tried to offer an approach between a series and a play, and we sought through scenography and sound effects to move away from what was presented in the series, because we are working on a theatrical performance, and therefore the impact and effect are grander.' He noted that this directorial attempt might be the first and last, considering the effort and energy required for theater work, which exceeds what is needed for dramatic or cinematic work. He also mentioned that contemporary effects and expressive dances were incorporated, while ensuring that the script and costumes belong to the historical period. He expressed hope for a return to theater, praising Al-Midjaz Theater for its theatrical productions. Haddad lauded the audience's interaction with the play, hoping it achieves even greater success in Sharjah. As for his Ramadan works, he mentioned that he has finished filming two series, 'The King's Family' directed by Mohamed Abdelaziz, and 'Naaman's Daughter' directed by Saif Sheikh Najib, and is currently filming 'The Syrians Are Enemies' directed by Leith Hajjo. He noted that Syrian drama is in a recovery phase, and the future looks promising.
