The 23rd edition of the Sharjah Heritage Days, organized by the Sharjah Institute for Heritage, hosted a research seminar titled "Folk Markets". It brought together a group of academics who presented historical and economic readings on the transformations of traditional markets. Dr. Yahya Mahmoud's paper, "Khan Al-Khalili: From a Mamluk Market to a Tourist Attraction," traced the historical path of this landmark. Dr. Adrian de Man presented a paper on the nature of the commercial system in the Gulf during the 15th and 16th centuries. Dr. Masoud Eddish reviewed "Folk Markets in Macedonia: From Their Origins to Their Current State."
