The Sharjah Culture Department announced the winners of the Sharjah Playwriting Award «Theatrical Texts for Adults (2025-2026)», held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah. The award aims to support playwriting in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries. First place went to Omani writer Maryam Abdullah Mubarak for her play «A Will Before I Am Born», second place went to Emirati writer Ahmed Abdullah Rashid for his play «He Harm Himself», and third place went to Omani Badar Al-Hamadani for his play «The Station». First place is awarded 100,000 dirhams, second place 50,000 dirhams, and third place 25,000 dirhams. The winners will be honored during the 35th Sharjah Theatre Days on March 24. The award requires that the submissions be in Modern Standard Arabic, original, and not previously published or participated in other competitions. Each contestant may submit only one text.
