Author's Rights in the Age of Artificial Intelligence

At a workshop organized by the Sharjah International Book Fair titled «Author's Rights in the Age of Artificial Intelligence,» Dr. Mahmoud Al-Kamali delivered an in-depth analysis of the legal and ethical challenges facing authors and creators in an era where technology algorithms intersect with human creativity. Al-Kamali posed a pivotal question: «Who owns the work generated by artificial intelligence?» explaining that intellectual property is only granted for human creativity, creating a gap between automated innovation and the protection of authors' rights. He pointed out that modern digital systems rely on original human content to produce new works, raising questions about their share and source, emphasizing that preserving authenticity has become the biggest challenge. He also reviewed technical and legal solutions to protect creators, such as digital watermarking, plagiarism detection tools, and digital rights management systems. Al-Kamali concluded by stating that artificial intelligence does not diminish the value of human creativity but rather increases the need to protect it by developing legal and ethical frameworks that keep pace with digital developments and ensure the sustainability of creativity.
