The new coach of Sharjah Club, Abdulmajid Nammer, stated that he will strive to improve his team's current results, which he recently took charge of following the departure of Serbian coach Milos Milojevic. He confirmed that he hopes to live up to the trust placed in him by the Sharjah Club's management, noting that he will focus heavily on the players' psychological aspects in the upcoming period.
Sharjah is preparing for its first match under the new coach, which will be held today at their home stadium against Bani Yas, as part of the eighth round of the ADNOC Pro League. Regarding the possibility of Sharjah's international players, who were with the national team for the World Cup qualifiers, participating, Nammer told "Al-Ittihad" that they have been given a rest and will not play against Bani Yas, with the exception of one player whose name he refused to disclose. This means six international players will be absent.
The last national team squad, which played two decisive matches against Iraq in the World Cup qualifiers, included seven players from Sharjah: Khaled Al-Zuhairi, Majid Rashid, Harib Abdullah, Luan Pereira, Marcus Miloni, Caio Lucas, and goalkeeper Adel Al-Hosani.
Nammer spoke about his focus on the psychological aspect of Sharjah's players in the coming period, saying: "The psychological aspect for players is the weapon we are currently working on in the technical staff, despite the tight time frame".
He explained: "We aim to change the players' psychological mindset in the upcoming period because everyone knows that Sharjah is the same team that achieved titles last season, and the players are the same. The team may have also added some new elements, but it did not work out with the previous technical staff, who we thank for what they did for the team".
In response to a question about what he is currently thinking most about after taking charge of Sharjah, Nammer said: "For me, I am currently thinking about improving the team's performance and results." He confirmed that the team needs to rebuild trust in some players, especially since the team has excellent elements. He pointed out that the previous technical staff tried but did not succeed in achieving results during the season.
The Sharjah coach continued: "I thank the sports community, which was very happy with my appointment to this task, and I hope to be worthy of this trust." As for whether Sharjah needs to strengthen its squad with some new players, Nammer said: "I do not think the team needs new players, but if we see a need, we will do so. As for us in the technical staff, we will give opportunities to all players."
After the end of the seventh round of the league, Sharjah is in 11th place with seven points, having won two matches, drawn one, and lost four. The team has conceded nine goals and scored eight.
Nammer began his coaching career in 2001 and has been coaching for about 25 years. He coached all of Sharjah Club's youth teams and then the first team twice in 2010-2011. He also coached the first team of Hatta Club in the Pro League, as well as the first team of Khorfakkan Club twice in 2022, when he saved the team from relegation to the amateur league last season. He also coached the reserve team of Al-Nasr Club in 2013. Nammer is also an accredited technical instructor with the Asian Football Confederation.
Regarding his playing career, Abdulmajid Nammer started as a player in all of Sharjah Club's youth teams, then moved to the first team, where he played for about 10 years, winning seven titles: four league championships, two President's Cups, and one Super Cup. He also played for the youth team in the 1987 AFC Asian Cup final.
