Sharjah VP comments on Jose Mourinho contract signing

Obaid Al-Shamisi, Vice Chairman of the Sharjah Sports Club's Board of Directors, in response to a question regarding the controversy surrounding the contract with Portuguese coach Jose Mourinho, coming from Al-Wehda to take over the team from Serbian coach Milos, stated that Sharjah did not enter into any negotiations with Mourinho until the latter terminated his contract with Al-Wehda, confirming that their goal in the club's management is to get the team back on the track of victories, explaining that despite the loss to Al-Hilal of Saudi Arabia in the sixth round of the AFC Champions League Elite, Sharjah showed a sophisticated technical level, indicating that their focus in Sharjah will be on the upcoming match against Shabab Al-Ahli in the Super Cup. Al-Shamisi added to "Al-Ittihad" that "Sharjah Club, after the end of the relationship with the former coach Milos, opened channels of communication and negotiation with about six or seven coaches, including a Spaniard, a Frenchman, and the South African Pitso Mosimane, and Mourinho was not among them, but we started negotiations with him later after he terminated his contract with his former club." Al-Shamisi confirmed that Mourinho after the end of his relationship with Al-Wehda club was the best option, as he is a coach present in the UAE league, especially as he achieved good results. Adding, "Sharjah's goal in the next stage will focus on three main things: the Super Cup against Shabab Al-Ahli scheduled for Saturday, the Elite League, and the UAE-Qatar Super Cup." Regarding the technical level shown by Sharjah against Al-Hilal, during the match that ended with the latter winning 1-0 in the sixth round of the AFC Champions League Elite, Al-Shamsi clarified: "Regardless of the match result, the performance presented by the team against Al-Hilal reassured them that the team is heading in the right direction, compared to the level shown in its first match under the leadership of the new coach Jose Mourinho." As to whether Sharjah needs reinforcement in its ranks during the upcoming January winter transfer window, Al-Shamsi said: "The team's coach Mourinho asked to be given a two-week period to evaluate the team's affairs and its needs, and then he will decide whether the team needs reinforcement or not, because these are technical matters, and the first and last word in them is for the coach." Regarding Sharjah's chances of qualifying for the round of 16 in the AFC Champions League Elite, Al-Shamsi clarified that "Sharjah is still among the eight teams in the AFC Champions League".
