Sharjah to Focus on Pro League After Super Cup Triumph

Ibrahim Salim Sambid, the head of Sharjah Football Club, confirmed that the upcoming stage will see a strong focus on the team's matches in the ADNOC Pro League, aiming to correct their course and secure a high-ranking position worthy of the club's "King" nickname. This comes after the team's recent achievement of winning the Super Cup by defeating Shabab Al Ahli 3-2.

Ibrahim Salim told "Al Ittihad": "The league is the top priority for the club at the moment, alongside the team's aspiration to win the UAE-Qatar Super Cup scheduled for this month."

Regarding the possibility of strengthening the team during the winter transfer window, which opens on the 13th of this month, Ibrahim Salim indicated that "the administration is seeking to enhance the team with new elements if capable players who can provide the required technical addition are available."

He explained that "the club's administration has already identified the positions that need reinforcement in the upcoming stage," while emphasizing that "Sharjah currently has a distinguished group of players, meaning the team does not need wide-ranging changes, but rather limited support in specific positions."

The head of Sharjah Football Club's company also pointed out that "harmony and understanding prevail within the current administrative group," noting that "the presence of Portuguese coach José Moraais is a significant addition to the club's journey." He confirmed that "the coach needs more time to make the desired changes and get the team back on the right track, especially given his rich coaching history, most recently with Al Wahda club."

He added that "Sharjah finished last season in second place in all competitions with the same elements currently present, and also won the AFC Champions League 2." He clarified that "the decline in recent results is due to the lack of success of the former coach Milos, coupled with the team not performing at the required level at the start of the season."

Sharjah currently sits in 12th place in the ADNOC Pro League table with seven points, and eighth in the AFC Elite Club Champions League table with seven points as well, with two matches left in the group stage against Qatari's Al-Duhail and Uzbekistan's Nasaf.

Regarding the Super Cup triumph despite the short tenure of the current administration and new technical staff, Ibrahim Salim confirmed that "winning the title is a good achievement that counts for the current group at the club."

Regarding renewing the contracts of some players whose contracts are nearing expiration, Ibrahim Salim clarified that "this file will be handled in full coordination with the coach, according to the team's technical needs."

As for the future of player Marcos Miloni, amidst rumors of a possible departure, Ibrahim Salim confirmed that "the administration is keen to renew the player's contract and continue with him in the team's ranks."

Regarding Sharjah's journey in the AFC Elite Club Champions League, Ibrahim Salim stressed that "the team played well against Saudi Al-Hilal despite the 1-0 loss in the sixth round." He explained that "Sharjah had not yet fully regained its fitness at that time," while also confirming that "Al-Hilal is a strong team with distinguished elements, regardless of the match circumstances."
