The UAE's retail markets are witnessing competitive discounts on local fruits and vegetables, ranging from 15% to 50%, improving consumer access to essential goods amidst a surplus supply.

Recently, the market for various trade has become a place of intense competition among different sales points. This is accompanied by wide discounts on certain types of vegetables and fruits with varying percentages of price reductions. During the territorial review, the journalists of "Emirates Today" noted that local vegetables accounted for a significant part of price reductions compared to imported goods. Proposed discounts range from 15 to 50 percent.

Many consumers consider the expansion of discounts on vegetables and fruits a positive phenomenon, as they are essential goods for families. Representatives of various trading points explained the current discounts and showcased local seasonal products, the policy of diversification of imported goods from abroad. They emphasized that increased supplies from local farmers positively affect price stability and promotional offers.

Discounts primarily concern certain types of products, such as tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuce, eggplants, peppers, especially those with local origins, as well as grapes, bananas, apples, and dates. One of the consumers, Abdelrahim Osman, pointed out: "Currently, stores offer wide discounts on vegetables and fruits, which is encouraging since these products are a necessity for families".

On the other hand, consumer Hasan Imad remarked that some stores offer substantial discounts on certain types of vegetables and fruits, but noted that such promotions are limited in some stores and called for the expansion of the assortment of products in different sales locations to maximize benefits for consumers, depending on their places of residence.

Specifically on this issue, consumer Khalid Sami agreed that recent discounts on vegetables and fruits are a positive phenomenon, which should encourage stores to adopt and expand, considering the increase in demand for these products in the future and their importance for families. Notably highlighted among them, entrepreneur Mohammd Abubakar stated that "the majority of offers with discounts focus on specific categories of goods, such as tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuce, eggplants, and local-origin peppers, as well as grapes, bananas, apples, and dates," and demanded the expansion of such offers, considering the assortment of goods in stores.

As detailed by the executive director for public relations of the "Union" corporation, Dr. Suheil Al Bustaki, "markets in recent times demonstrate a significant increase in the assortment of goods, which is caused by the increase in supplies of locally sourced vegetables and fruits, as well as the diversification of imported products that, in turn, contributes to an increase in the offers available in the market with varying percentages".

He added: "Increased competition in offers positively reflects on consumers as they receive competitive prices on various product offerings". The head of the marketing and relations department in the Sharjah corporation, Faisal Khalid al-Nabuda, stated: "The corporation has launched various initiatives in recent times, including wide discounts of up to 40 percent on local vegetables and fruits, within the framework of stimulation, support, and marketing of domestic production of local farmers".
