Etihad Rail has recently unveiled the UAE’s first high-speed train, marking a significant milestone in the country's transportation infrastructure. The ambitious project is projected to bring about a substantial economic impact, with an estimated contribution of AED 145 billion over the next five decades.

The high-speed train will connect Abu Dhabi and Dubai, slashing travel times between the two cities to just 30 minutes, operating at speeds of up to 350 kph. This initiative aims to streamline connectivity and enhance transportation efficiency across the UAE.

The official announcement was made during a ceremony at Al Faya Depot by Etihad Rail, with the endorsement of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Notable attendees included His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

In a statement to WAM, Mohammed Al Shehhi, Chief Projects Officer at Etihad Rail, emphasized the project's significance, stating, “This achievement underscores the UAE's commitment to sustainable transportation and infrastructure modernization through cutting-edge technological solutions, enhancing the overall quality of life for residents and visitors."

The high-speed network will comprise six strategically located stations, facilitating smooth travel across key destinations such as Reem Island, Saadiyat Island, Yas Island, and Zayed International Airport in Abu Dhabi, as well as stations near Al Maktoum International Airport and the Jaddaf area in Dubai.

Etihad Rail is also gearing up to launch its regular passenger train fleet, designed to cater to around 400 passengers and equipped with family-friendly amenities. The initial four passenger train stations, integrated with existing metro and bus networks, will be situated in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, and Fujairah, further solidifying the UAE's status as a pioneer in smart transportation.

Although the trains are fully prepared for operations, a specific timeline for commencement is yet to be disclosed, showcasing the country’s readiness to embrace cutting-edge infrastructure projects that propel it to the forefront of global transportation advancement.
