The UAE's aviation sector shows record performance in 2024 with a 10% rise in passenger traffic and significant growth in air cargo, reinforcing its global position.

Yesterday, the Civil Aviation Authority announced the achievement of record indicators in the civil aviation sector in the country for 2024, with a 10% increase in passenger traffic, reaching 147.8 million passengers compared to 134 million in 2023. Cargo aviation also significantly increased by 17.8%, reaching 4.36 million tons compared to 3.7 million tons last year.

These results reflect sustainable growth and operational efficiency in the sector, as well as its vital role in connecting the world through the country’s airports. The number of arrivals into the country totaled 41.6 million passengers, departures - 41.7 million, and transit - 64.4 million.

The sector also noted a significant increase in the number of working employees, including 9,622 pilots, 35,899 crew members, 4,493 engineers, 461 aviation dispatchers, and 419 staff responsible for transfers. The number of registered air carriers grew to 36, while the total number of registered aircraft amounted to 929, including 520 registered aircraft of national airlines.

The number of airlines in 2024 reached 1.03 million, which is a record indicator in the history of aviation in the country. The Minister of Economy and Chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority Abdulla Bin Tuke noted that the achieved figures not only indicate growth but also clearly demonstrate the strength of the aviation sector in the UAE and its key role in supporting the national economy.

He added: 'This progress is impossible without the wise vision of our leaders, who laid the foundations of a strong and competitive aviation sector that can gain high confidence from the international community.' In his turn, the General Director of the Civil Aviation Authority Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi emphasized that positive indicators achieved by the aviation sector in the country in 2024 reflect its strengthening competitiveness and central role in stimulating economic and social growth.
