According to the National Media Council of the UAE, 1,262 films were screened in the country in 2024, reinforcing its status as a center for international film premieres. The expansion of the film industry is paralleling the development of the computer gaming industry in the UAE, which generated revenue of 1.5 billion dirhams last year. This strategy allows audiences, including migrant workers, to experience blockbuster films in real time alongside global markets. With continued government support and innovative advancements in the industry, the UAE remains a leading center for cinema and gaming, providing high-quality entertainment for both residents and expatriates.
He noted that growth is fueled by a strong regulatory environment, policy, business-friendly relationships, and contemporary infrastructure that attract investments. Previous screenings of major films in the UAE further solidified the country's positioning as a prime destination for film critics. For the regulation of media content, authorities are considering 375 video games to ensure compliance with age-appropriate material, consistent with national recommendations on entertainment.
Mohammed Saeed Al-Shehhi, Secretary-General of the UAE Media Council, stated that these data reflect the country's commitment to promoting the media and entertainment sector. The goal of the Council is to improve regulations and partnerships to support this growth in the coming years.
