United Arab Emirates — The United Arab Emirates has welcomed the "Riyadh Declaration on Innovation and Artificial Intelligence in Tourism", officially adopted during the 26th session of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) in the Saudi capital from November 7 to 11. The declaration aims to shape the future of tourism through innovation and digital transformation.
Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, UAE Minister of Economy and Tourism, confirmed the country's commitment to supporting the implementation of all the declaration's objectives. This will be achieved by sharing knowledge and best practices in developing sustainable tourism destinations, and fostering cooperation in digital innovation and data systems.
He also highlighted that the "Riyadh Declaration" provides a clear roadmap for addressing the challenges facing the global tourism sector, such as balancing economic growth with cultural preservation and environmental responsibility. The declaration places innovation, sustainability, and international cooperation at the core of its agenda.
According to the minister, the priorities of the declaration align with the UAE's approach to developing the tourism sector, which is based on integrating sustainability into planning, enhancing digital transformation, and investing in human capital development. This ensures that tourism continues to be a source of opportunities and development for communities.
As part of the National Tourism Strategy 2031, the Ministry of Economy and Tourism is implementing a range of digital initiatives, including a project to electronically link hotel data with local tourism authorities. By 2026, the ministry aims to launch new projects focused on diversifying tourism products and destinations, and promoting digital transformation through innovative solutions and modern technologies.
"We do not view artificial intelligence as a standalone technology, but as a strategic enabler for sustainable tourism growth, competitiveness, and visitor experience excellence," stated bin Touq. "We are committed to developing our international partnerships to be active contributors to the production of development-oriented AI in tourism, rather than mere consumers of its technologies and applications."
In conclusion, the minister reaffirmed the UAE's commitment to working with UNWTO member states to enhance shared knowledge, exchange best practices, and promote ethical and responsible AI governance, contributing to the collective shaping of a more resilient, innovative, and inclusive global tourism sector.
