Emirates Steel Named 'Sustainability Leader 2026'

Emirates Steel, based in the United Arab Emirates, announced that it has been named 'Sustainability Leader 2026' by the World Steel Association for the third consecutive year. This makes it the only company in the Middle East and North Africa region to receive this global title, reinforcing its position as a global leader in sustainable steelmaking and decarbonization. The award was announced during the Sustainability Leaders Awards ceremony, held as part of the World Steel Association's 2026 Annual General Meeting in Berlin, Germany. This achievement reflects Emirates Steel's efforts to embed sustainability across all its operations. In 2025, the company continued to make significant progress in reducing carbon emissions, cutting total emissions by 34% compared to 2019, with a continuous improvement in emission intensity. Emission intensity reached its lowest levels to date, at 0.637 tonnes of CO2 equivalent per tonne of steel and 0.638 tonnes per tonne of cement. This achievement is the culmination of Emirates Steel's approach to improving energy efficiency, increasing reliance on clean electricity, and accelerating the development of carbon capture and circular economy solutions.
