First Lady of Korea Opens UAE Art Exhibition in Seoul

The First Lady of the Republic of Korea, Kim Hee-young, attended the opening of the 'Ruwāid wa Ru'yā' exhibition at the Seoul Museum of Art. The event, organized in partnership between the UAE and Korea, showcases the works of 47 Emirati artists and reflects the fifty-year history of the development of visual arts in the country.

The First Lady of the Republic of Korea, Kim Hee-young, confirmed that the exhibition 'Ruwāid wa Ru'yā' (Branches and Visions) reflects the growing depth of cultural relations between the United Arab Emirates and the Republic of Korea, embodying the path of a special strategic partnership between the two countries. She stated that organizing joint cultural exhibitions is an extension of her recent visit to the UAE, which contributed to the rapprochement of civilizations and cultural exchange between the peoples.

She added that the joint cultural exhibition, presented by Korean artists at the presidential palace, constituted a symbolic moment that expressed the strength of the cultural ties between the two countries.

This came during the opening of the exhibition 'Ruwāid wa Ru'yā', held the day before yesterday for the first time at the Seoul Museum of Art and East Asian Art (SeMA) as part of the Abu Dhabi Festival abroad program, in partnership with the Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism and the Seoul Museum of Art.

In turn, Minister of Culture Sheikh Salem bin Khalid Al Qasimi said: 'The exhibition embodies the vision of the UAE in building bridges of international cooperation and deepening cultural ties with friendly countries, which serves to exchange experiences among artists and the joint development of resources in the cultural and creative industries sector. It also enhances the UAE's global presence through the largest exhibition of its kind in Korea and East Asia, with the participation of 47 artists from the UAE representing five decades of artistic creativity.'

He added that the strategic partnership with the Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism reflects a shared commitment to enabling a renaissance of the cultural scene in the UAE and offering a culture that inspires the world, by supporting the Abu Dhabi Festival abroad program and building effective partnerships with prestigious cultural institutions such as the Seoul Museum of Art, which enhances human interaction and intercultural dialogue.

For his part, the UAE Ambassador to the Republic of Korea, Abdullah Saif Al Nuaimi, said that organizing the exhibition 'Ruwāid wa Ru'yā' in Seoul reflects the depth and strength of the cultural ties binding the two countries, noting that the exhibition provides a comprehensive narrative of the journey of the development of visual arts in the UAE over five decades, by combining the works of pioneers and the creativity of contemporary artists.

While the founder of the Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism and the artistic director of the Abu Dhabi Festival, Huda Ibrahim Al Hamis, said that the exhibition, through photography, video, painting, sculpture, performance, and art installation, highlights the impact of the convergence of evolving creative thought, cultural dialogue, and the interaction of civilizations, and enhances the presence of UAE artists on the global stage, contributing to knowledge exchange and building bridges of cultural dialogue.

She added: 'The exhibition presents the experiences of three generations of UAE artists who grew up amidst the rapid transformations the country has witnessed and contributed to its cultural and intellectual renaissance.'
