RTA Unveils Major Infrastructure Upgrade

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) recently announced a new project to enhance access to and from residential areas in Nadd Hessa, Al Awir 1, Al Barsha South, and Wadi Al Safa 3. This initiative is projected to increase vehicle capacity by up to 80% and is anticipated to benefit over 400,000 residents.

Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA, explained that the project includes comprehensive roadworks and traffic solutions. New entry and exit points for Nadd Hessa from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street will be constructed with two lanes capable of accommodating 6,000 vehicles per hour. Additionally, a two-lane road in each direction alongside Nadd Hessa will be built, with a roundabout for access to both Nadd Hessa and Dubai Silicon Oasis Complex. Al Tayer also mentioned that a signalized junction on Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street will significantly reduce travel time to just 37 seconds.

The project will also feature a 7.5-kilometer road connecting Al Awir 1 to Emirates Road, effectively doubling the per-hour capacity from 1,500 to 3,000 vehicles. Hessa Street Development Project enhancements in Al Barsha South will include traffic light modifications at the Hessa Street and Al Barsha South intersection, and the addition of a third left-turn lane to improve access from Hessa Street into Al Barsha South. These improvements are expected to benefit approximately 75,000 residents.

Furthermore, Hessa Street will be expanded to four lanes, increasing traffic capacity from 6,000 to 9,000 vehicles per hour. The Wadi Al Safa 3 project will facilitate direct access from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road for vehicles traveling from Dubai-Al Ain Road, reducing travel distance by 10 km and cutting travel time from 10 minutes to just two. These enhancements will benefit residents of Nadd Hessa, Warsan 4, Hessa Gardens, and Dubai Silicon Oasis, with a combined population exceeding 300,000.

The project will cover access points located along Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, Emirates Road, Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street, and Hessa Street, aiming to improve the overall infrastructure in these important areas.
