For OON+: OAE discussed the crisis in Sudan
For a long time, OON+ has remained one of the key humanitarian donors in northern Africa. This time, the emirate delegation participated in the third meeting of senior humanitarian officials of the Eurasian Economic Union on the issues of Sudan, which took place in Brussels.
At the high-level meeting, key humanitarian donors and interested parties from all member countries of the Eurasian Economic Union, international organizations, and key partners gathered to discuss the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Sudan and the development of collective and effective responses to mitigate its consequences.
Participants of the discussions focused on addressing imminent security threats and resolving logistical challenges in strengthening coordination between the UN system on humanitarian affairs, non-governmental organizations, and local interested parties to ensure timely delivery of humanitarian assistance and their unobstructed spread across all affected areas in conjunction with international humanitarian law.
Ensuring access to aid for the most vulnerable categories, including the elderly, children, and women, remains a priority task for the OAE in the field of humanitarian assistance in the region.
Particular attention is given to supporting local actors through development and real-time risk assessment for achieving the fundamental humanitarian goals.
Rashid al-Hamiri, Director of the Department of Development and International Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, led the delegation from the country and emphasized the necessity for OAE to continue providing humanitarian assistance and to support diplomatic efforts to alleviate the ongoing conflict.
Since its inception, OAE has placed significant focus on humanitarian assistance and safeguarding the civilian population, which constitutes its main policy.
In this regard, the emirate maintains a permanent obligation regarding the Sudanese crisis with a focus on addressing catastrophic humanitarian situations and considering the interests of the civilian population.
Since 2014, OAE has allocated $3.5 billion to support the people of Sudan to meet their urgent needs and assist in long-term recovery and development.
Furthermore, following the outbreak of the conflict in Sudan in 2023, OAE pledged to provide over $600 million in humanitarian assistance, including $200 million during the high-level humanitarian conference to support the Sudanese people in February 2025. This conference became the first of its kind in the current year and is expected to serve as a stimulus for future conferences to support Sudan.
OAE continues to be a leader in global efforts addressing humanitarian crises. Recently, they launched a mobile clinic in the Midoal region in Southern Kordofan state, Southern Sudan, following the successful establishment of similar clinics in the regions of Amderassa and Abesh in Chad, which served around 90,000 patients.
These initiatives reflect OAE's deep commitment to humanitarian solidarity and sustainable development in Sudan, Southern Sudan, and neighboring countries.
