Apple has announced the activation of high blood pressure notification feature in its smart watches in the UAE and Saudi Arabia. This feature aims to detect early one of the most dangerous causes of heart attacks and strokes worldwide. Apple confirmed that the high blood pressure notification feature is a significant health advancement, as high blood pressure is the leading cause of heart attacks, strokes, and kidney diseases that can be intervened with, affecting approximately 1.3 billion adults globally. The company pointed out that this disease often goes undiagnosed due to the lack of clear symptoms, irregular medical check-ups for many people, and the possibility of ignoring its measurement even during a medical examination. The high blood pressure notification feature in Apple watches relies on analyzing heart rate data using an advanced algorithm without the need for new sensors, enabling it to work on older watch models. The importance of the feature lies in its role as a widespread health screening tool, as it allows users to continuously monitor high blood pressure indicators. Activation requires collecting data for 30 days through Apple's Health app on iPhones. Apple states that the feature is intended for individuals over 22 years old, excluding pregnant women and those previously diagnosed with high blood pressure. When indicators appear, the watch suggests creating a measurement log using an external device for 7 days with daily reminders, and the option to extend the monitoring period for up to 4 weeks. Apple had previously emphasized that the high blood pressure notification feature is not a tool for diagnosis, treatment, or direct disease management intervention, noting that some individuals with the condition may not receive notifications on their watch.
