The UAE Federal Supreme Court has approved the extradition of French national Mehdi Charafa to the relevant authorities in the Republic of France. The extradition request was made on charges of drug trafficking and money laundering. The decision came after all legal procedures were completed by the accused in accordance with the extradition agreement signed between the UAE and France on May 2nd, 2007.
The Abu Dhabi Federal Appeal Court initially approved the extradition, but Charafa appealed the decision. The Federal Supreme Court rejected the appeal during a session held on 14th January 2025 and upheld the extradition order. The UAE's commitment to cooperating with international partners in the pursuit of international justice was highlighted through these legal procedures.
The extradition agreement with France is just one of more than 45 agreements signed by the UAE with various countries in recent years. The UAE continues its commitment to further expanding such accords. These agreements illustrate the UAE's dedication to enhancing cooperation on legal and judicial matters following international best practices to combat global crimes effectively.
