Registered Filipino voters in the UAE are urged to complete the preliminary registration for the May 2025 elections, as the deadline expires in two days.
The initial deadline for registration, originally set to May 7, has been extended to May 10, 2025, at 7:59 PM UAE time. The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has approved a three-day extension to allow more Filipinos abroad to participate in response to numerous requests from various Filipino communities across the border.
"We extended the registration, possibly for an additional three days, to accommodate more Filipinos," says a statement in the Minute Resolutions No. 25-0544.
"This is a mandatory step for participation in online voting," he notes.
As of May 3, Comelec reported that 134,474 voters had already been pre-registered from abroad.
The voting period will conclude on May 12, 2025. The Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi and the Consulate General in Dubai are open to provide assistance for online voting.
"We encourage Filipinos in the UAE to visit the official Comelec website for registration," the statement says. "However, at this time, only 11.01% of the total registered voters from abroad have submitted their preliminary registration."
# "Our missions also urge registered voters to make their preliminary registration to ensure their participation," it is indicated in Resolution 25-0544.
