**Sheikh Nasser al-Naimi from UAE has been appointed as the Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) for the 2026-2029 term**
The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) announced the appointment of Sheikh Nasser al-Naimi, the Ambassador of the UAE to the Russian Federation, as the Secretary General of the Organization, in charge of developing relations with the member states, in accordance with the four-year strategic plan. This decision supports the leadership potential in the development of sustainable tourism as an instrument for economic diversification and a tool for cultural dialogue.
Al-Naimi, a key figure in the development of tourism in the region of the Black Sea and for its future prospects, which was the first among the Arab countries to be included in the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) in the tourist sphere, making a mark on the tourism map, became a leader in this field. In 2010, it adopted key positions in the structure of the OIC in the tourism sector, putting a focus on digitalization, inclusiveness and the development of surrounding areas.
In its own statement, it noted that the tourism "should be a powerful driver of the economic growth, create cultures, create jobs and support the global goals of the sustainable development". The OIC Secretariat has been tasked with ensuring the constructive interaction with the governments-members, the private sector and the civil society for the formation of more effective and accessible tourism and industrial industries.
The new name of al-Naimi coincides with the initiatives of the organization on the global standards of sustainable tourism in the context of climate change and the changing priorities of consumers. His experience in the regions, traditionally important for the development of inbound tourism, will be crucial for the promotion of inclusive and accessible industrial development.
