The Arab Union of Journalists, a UN member, called for maximum vigilance and rigorous verification of information sources before disseminating or relying on them, especially in the current circumstances. The Union warned of the dangers of misleading information, rumors, and fake news, which have become tools used by entities seeking to incite strife, disrupt social peace, and destabilize. In a statement issued today, the Union said: "We live in an era where the flow of news and information is accelerating, imposing on all of us an ethical and national responsibility towards what we consume and publish." The Union warned against following so-called "electronic committees and fake accounts" that spread lies and distort facts, noting that these committees represent only private agendas aimed at causing chaos and undermining national unity, emphasizing the importance of obtaining facts and information from legitimate channels and official government institutions that adhere to professionalism and credibility in news reporting. The Union also warned against underestimating the spread of false and misleading information, stressing that the national and ethical duty lies with every individual. In this context, Dr. Ahmed Noor, Chairman of the Union, highly praised the leading role of the United Arab Emirates, which operates at the highest level of media professionalism and information technology skills to protect its security, citizens, and residents, noting that the UAE's unwavering commitment to protecting its society from any threats, whether internal or external, is a model to be emulated in the region and the world, reflecting the wise vision of its leadership in preserving national gains and ensuring the well-being of all.
