
The shining success was marked by the sports delegation from the UAE at the Winter Special Olympics in Turin in 2025. A total of 16 medals were won: four gold, five silver, and seven bronze. This victorious result became an important contribution to the country's sports legacy after the successful hosting in Abu Dhabi of the World Summer Games in 2019.
As part of the events in the updated training program for winter sports trainers in November 2024, a task was set for the graduate preparation of athletes to ensure their full readiness for competitions. The team of special Olympics from the UAE, which included 11 athletes with intellectual and physical disabilities, stood out in disciplines such as cross-country skiing, skiing, figure skating, alpine skiing, curling, and snowboard.
Talal Al Hashimi, national director of the UAE Special Olympics and head of the delegation to Turin 2025, commented on the achievements of the team, expressing joy over the unique results that became the result of numerous intensive trainings and preparations. He noted the energy and enthusiasm demonstrated by athletes on the slopes, and also emphasized that this achievement was the result of hard work and dedication.
Participants of the Emirati delegation at the Winter Special Olympics in Italy, where more than 1500 athletes from 102 countries gathered, became a confirmation of collective work and excellent preparation. As part of the events, the UAE Special Olympics held a series of intense training sessions for participants, focusing on developing skills in six types of sports included in the competition program. The UAE Special Olympics also organized two training camps: the first in Uzbekistan in January and the second in Dubai in March before the departure of athletes to Turin.
