The European consumers' organization expressed concerns about the operation of Meta's ad-free subscription version, asserting that it could still violate the confidentiality of the European Union, consumer protection laws, and anti-competitive legislation, and called for EU regulators to conduct a more thorough investigation and prevent actions against American technological giants.
Meta recently reduced the price of its ad-free subscription on Facebook and Instagram for EU users by 40% to comply with regulatory requirements in the region. However, the consumer organization that lodged a complaint regarding the paid service last year stated that the changes made were purely cosmetic, and that
"There are no confirmations that changes in the tech giant's actions indicate real progress for consumers or for competition," said the general director of the European consumers' organization Monique Goyens.
