A marketing study conducted by Emirates Today showed that more than 34 brands of dates are represented in the country across various cooperatives, large retail outlets, and markets. In these conditions, the demand for dates significantly rises - by 80% - during the holy month of Ramadan, which is the main season for increasing sales of producers and suppliers of dates in the local market.
Representatives of retail outlets noted that the demand for dates is closely linked to the month of Ramadan and is one of the most important components of the festive table due to their value, traditions, and cultural significance. They also serve as a source of nutritious substances and beneficial properties. At this moment during Ramadan, discounts of up to 60% on dates are observed, which spurs fierce competition between producers and suppliers, according to these experts.
A field study conducted by Emirates Today showed that more than 34 brands of dates are represented in local markets. The market offers a variety of types and origins of dates, including varieties from the UAE, as well as from Saudi Arabia, Iran, Palestine, Egypt, the USA, and other countries. Date products are available in various forms: paste, syrup, jam, as well as in the form of dates stuffed with nuts, sweets, chocolate, and without preservatives. The sizes of the dates vary significantly from very large (jumbo) to the smallest.
Many promotions and discounts on dates and their products are offered in the current month of Ramadan. A representative of the retail outlet Hassan Rizk noted an increase in demand for dates during this period, which has become characteristic of rising sales. Due to fierce competition between producers and suppliers, there is an increase in the variety of dates on the shelves, especially of domestic dates, considered to be of high quality in the world.
It is very important to emphasize the nutritional value of dates, which are rich in copper, magnesium, selenium, manganese, vitamin K, and boron. They are beneficial for bone health, prevention of diseases related to osteoporosis and Alzheimer's disease. Dates are also a source of dietary fibers and non-starch polysaccharides, supporting healthy gastrointestinal tract health and preventing colon cancers and other digestive disorders, as well as promoting the growth of beneficial bacteria in the gut and protecting against the harmful effects of germs and parasites in the digestive system, while also improving dental health and preventing cavities.
That said, excessive consumption of dates in moderation may cause harm to health due to potential weight gain and negative impact on blood sugar levels due to their high sugar content.
