Jebel Ali Port Sets Bulk Cargo Handling Record

Port Jebel Ali, DP World's flagship, achieved exceptional performance in October 2025, setting a record for bulk cargo handling at 630,000 tons. This growth is driven by increased steel imports for major UAE infrastructure projects and rising sugar exports, confirming the strength of the country's industrial base in global trade.

Jebel Ali Port Sets Bulk Cargo Handling Record

Port Jebel Ali, the main port of DP World, achieved exceptional performance in October 2025, setting a record for handling bulk cargo at 630,000 tons, the highest monthly total in nearly two decades. Although the past decade saw continuous growth in the handling of containers, bulk cargo, general cargo, and rolling goods, the new record reflects the expansion of industrial and construction activities in the region. This increase is attributed to key factors, most notably a significant rise in imports of steel and iron for major national projects in the UAE, such as the Dubai Metro Blue Line and the expansion of Al Maktum International Airport, alongside the growth of sugar exports. Building on the strong performance in 2024, during which bulk cargo handling increased by 23% year-on-year to reach 5.36 million tons, the new record confirms the continued strength of the UAE's industrial base and its growing role in global trade. Shihab Al Ghussein, Head of Commercial, Ports & Terminals, DP World GCC, said: "This achievement reflects the great confidence that companies place in Jebel Ali Port as one of the most reliable shipping gateways in the region, and it confirms our continuous growth in handling volumes in helping our customers meet the increasing demand for infrastructure projects while maintaining supply chain efficiency and flexibility. As the UAE continues to invest in infrastructure, industry, and logistics sectors, we remain committed to developing our capabilities, enhancing our technological solutions, and supporting sustainability initiatives to contribute to long-term growth." Bulk cargo, which includes heavy materials and large-sized equipment used in large-scale industrial and construction projects, is a fundamental element of Jebel Ali Port's operations. Thanks to the integrated Jebel Ali Free Zone (JAFZA) and DP World's extensive logistics network across regional and global supply chains, the company ensures the smooth movement of complex cargo at all stages of transport and delivery. This achievement comes as Jebel Ali Port continues to develop its position as one of the world's leading multi-purpose ports. Over the past decade, the port has maintained strong performance across multiple cargo categories, including containers, rolling goods, and bulk cargo. The latest record highlights the broad growth in the handling of various cargo types and confirms the port's ability to quickly adapt to changes in global supply chains.
