Dubai Calls on Youth to Drive Innovation and Cultural Growth

Hala Badri, Director General of Dubai Culture, called on the UAE's youth to prioritize continuous learning, innovation, and skill development. She emphasized the importance of leveraging the vast opportunities available in Dubai and the nation, and encouraged young people to propose bold ideas that can open new horizons for the cultural sector. Badri stated that the role of youth extends beyond serving themselves or their organizations; it is a mission and responsibility towards future generations, serving as a link in preserving cultural heritage and contributing to Dubai's narrative.

Badri highlighted Dubai's success in establishing a flexible, comprehensive economic, creative, and cultural ecosystem that has enhanced its global leadership. This achievement is attributed to the visionary leadership, an attractive legislative and investment environment, and support for the cultural and creative industries. Dubai Culture, through its strategic vision, works to elevate the emirate's international standing through diverse events and festivals, reinforcing the creative industries as a key driver of Dubai's creative economy.

The emirate's strategy aligns with Dubai's Creative Economy Strategy and the D33 Economic Agenda, which aim to double the size of Dubai's economy, increase foreign direct investment, and establish the city as one of the world's top three economic hubs. Projects like the Al Quoz Creative Zone provide vital facilities and opportunities for creators, artists, designers, and SMEs.

Badri noted that Dubai's continued cultural prominence is supported by its robust infrastructure, strategic location, and investment-friendly climate. However, she acknowledged key challenges facing the cultural sector, including keeping pace with digital innovation, ensuring the sustainability of cultural institutions, building creative capacities, and preserving heritage and cultural identity. Dubai Culture is addressing these challenges as opportunities to strengthen the creative industries.

To empower young talents, Dubai Culture launched the Dubai Cultural Grants program, awarding 18 grants worth AED 12 million in its first phase across various creative fields. The authority is also embracing digital solutions, partnering with companies like Google and Reality to foster innovation, offering programs such as the 'Middle East and North Africa Creator Camp' and 'Arts and Technology Training' to equip artists with modern skills.

A significant milestone was hosting the ICOM General Conference 2022, the first in the region, which showcased Dubai's ability to lead global dialogue on the future of museums and affirmed its status as a world-leading cultural hub.
