Dubai-based port operator DP World has launched a new sea freight service between Port Rashid in Dubai and Um Qasr port in Iraq. The direct sea route takes only 36 hours, offering a faster alternative to overland shipping, with a capacity of up to 145 trailers per trip. The new service was officially launched at Port Rashid with the arrival of the roll-on/roll-off vessel DP World Express, which recently underwent a major upgrade program. The vessel will transport complete, uncontainerized trailers with their drivers, providing a direct, integrated, and secure solution for cargo transport between the UAE and Iraq. This simplifies border crossings and enhances the reliability of logistics services. Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Chairman and CEO of DP World, stated that the new service will create a faster and more efficient maritime bridge linking the two countries, enhancing the flow of trade across the Middle East. This route offers customers a reliable and predictable option, reducing time, cost, and operational complexities while supporting sustainable economic growth on both sides of the trade corridor. The new line also improves access to major commercial centers in Iraq and strengthens connectivity with Jordan and Syria via existing land routes, boosting regional trade. On its return journey, the DP World Express will transport goods for export from Iraq to the UAE, supporting bilateral trade and increasing the efficiency of supply chains in the region.
