Fujairah Tourism Growth: Development Strategy and New Destinations

Fujairah shows significant tourism growth through strategic plans, developing adventure and cultural tourism, and attracting international brands. The emirate offers a unique blend of beach relaxation, mountain adventures, and rich cultural heritage.

Fujairah Tourism Growth: Development Strategy and New Destinations

Fujairah possesses a special charm, where tourism in the emirate blends relaxation on the turquoise beaches stretching along the Gulf of Oman with adventure amidst the towering Hajar Mountains. It also features modern shopping destinations, traditional souks, and ancient forts and castles.

In recent times, Fujairah has demonstrated significant growth in the tourism and hospitality sector, driven by ambitious strategic plans aimed at developing the emirate's resources and enhancing service quality across commercial, industrial, tourism, and agricultural sectors. This is complemented by a range of seasonal events and promotions that bolster the emirate's tourism identity.

A wide array of projects by entrepreneurs and startups operating in the tourism sector have contributed to achieving government goals in this area by offering innovative tourism services and products. This fosters sectoral growth, attracts more local and international visitors, and increases hotel occupancy rates. They benefit from flexible facilities and government support to deliver a tourism product worthy of the emirate's beauty and aligned with the nation's developmental objectives.

The sixth edition of the "World's Coolest Winter" campaign, under the slogan "Our Winter is Entrepreneurship," implemented by the Ministry of Economy and Tourism in collaboration with various tourism, culture, and heritage authorities across the country, highlights the strategic role of supporting innovative ideas and projects in advancing the tourism sector to encourage further investment in this sector across all emirates.

Strategic Plan

The focus on strengthening the tourism sector in Fujairah as one of the key pillars of the Fujairah Government's 2026 Strategic Plan, launched in 2023, involved crafting new concepts for the tourism sector, including adventure tourism. This sector is now a growing field that captures the attention of global tourism and receives significant backing from international tourism organizations. The establishment of the Fujairah Adventure Center is one form of the emirate's effort to develop its adventure tourism sector through quality events and joining international adventure sports organizations and associations, with the aim of enhancing Fujairah's status as a leading and distinctive destination in this field globally.

One of the most important goals of the Fujairah 2026 Plan in the tourism sector is to create attractive tourist destinations with a unique character, and to encourage domestic tourism by transforming local farms into sustainable tourism destinations through what is known as agritourism. This encourages visitors to learn about farmers' experiences and practices, the technologies used in plant cultivation or animal husbandry, and to support local produce through a comprehensive tourist experience that reflects the social and cultural heritage distinctive to Fujairah and the UAE as a whole.

Culture and Adventure

In the realm of cultural tourism, the importance of international cultural events and festivals is paramount, as they play a key role in fostering humanistic concepts among the world's peoples. This is coupled with the development of cultural attractions such as museums, heritage sites, archaeological landmarks, and religious monuments, which are abundant across various areas of Fujairah, and their transformation into sustainable tourist destinations.

The opening of the Fujairah Adventure Park, nestled within a range of towering mountains, has attracted enthusiasts of mountain sports and those seeking to experience challenge tracks for bicycles, equipped for amateurs, professionals, and advanced riders, as well as for children. The park includes dedicated training and qualification programs. Meanwhile, the Fujairah Adventure Center, established in 2017, is seeing growing visitor interest in its camping activities, which enjoy wide appeal among families, individuals, and international corporations.

The hiking activity attracted over 12,000 visitors during the last season, underscoring the importance of mountain trails as sustainable destinations that promote eco-tourism and support the local economy.

Just as adventure tourism and the enchanting nature of Fujairah's mountains appeal to tourists, the focus on attracting elite global hotel and resort brands has served to complete the tourism landscape. The emirate now has over 40 hotels, resorts, and hotel apartments, featuring a diverse range of brands.

Traditional Souks

Modern shopping destinations in Fujairah coexist with numerous traditional souks. The most prominent among them is the Friday Souq, situated in the mountains in a low-lying area known for its frequent rainfall, as well as the Fujairah Traditional Souk, which attracts visitors year-round with its diverse array of products bearing the touch of ancient heritage. The traditional souks serve as open-air platforms for investors—owners of simple, moderately-priced products, as well as folk items and exhibits representing various forms of experience and crafts that reflect community and human events. They also help to showcase products representing a unique style of creative, artisanal, and handmade crafts spread across the emirate, in addition to the abundance of local fruits and vegetables, most of which are harvested from local farms, and locally-made pottery.
