Peaceful nuclear energy plays a pivotal role in enhancing sustainability in the United Arab Emirates, by providing clean electricity around the clock, it significantly contributes to reducing the carbon footprint of the country's energy sector, a tangible impact felt across various sectors, reaching homes. Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) reported to the Emirates News Agency (WAM) that the share of electricity from the Barakah nuclear power plants in last month's electricity bill reached 57%, highlighting the growing role of Barakah plants in ensuring both energy security and sustainability. The company emphasized the importance of nuclear energy locally and globally in the worldwide transition to clean energy sources and achieving climate neutrality by 2050, especially with the massive increase in global electricity demand driven by greater reliance on electricity across various sectors and the expansion of artificial intelligence and data centers. It noted that its current and future approach focuses on forging global partnerships and research and development to explore opportunities for advancing advanced nuclear technologies, such as Small Modular Reactors (SMRs), while continuing to focus on operational excellence to meet the growing electricity demand with a reduced carbon footprint for the energy sector.
