The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure reported that this year will witness an expansion in the spread of ultra-fast and fast electric vehicle chargers across the country's emirates, according to set plans, to meet the growing demand for electric cars. During the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, it was mentioned that this direction is part of the strategy and plans to transition to clean energy and reduce emissions. The target is for all federal and government buses to become electric by 2030, and for 50% of all vehicles in the country to become electric by 2050. In detail, the Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure for Energy and Petroleum, Engineer Sherif Al Olama, stated that there is a noticeable expansion in the deployment of electric vehicle chargers across the country, especially after the launch of «Adnoc Distribution», one of the largest ultra-fast vehicle charging complexes in the world, and the launch of an integrated charging station in Ajman. This shows that the expansion plan for chargers is progressing well in different regions of the country. Al Olama added, in press statements on the sidelines of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, that the cooperation between the ministry and the concerned parties in the energy or smart mobility sectors contributes to increasing the number of electric chargers on roads and inside cities. He pointed out that the expansion will continue this year in deploying ultra-fast and fast chargers across the country's emirates, according to set plans, to meet the growing demand for electric vehicles. He mentioned that this direction comes within the strategy and plans to transition to clean energy and reduce carbon emissions. Al Olama explained that the number of electric vehicle chargers in the country currently reaches 1,200 chargers, indicating that there are plans to expand through the Emirates Company for Electric Vehicle Charging Stations, especially in the emirate of Dubai, due to a significant increase in the demand for electric vehicles. Al Olama clarified that the target by 2030 is for all federal and local government buses to become electric, while the target by 2050 is for 50% of the vehicles in the country to become electric. He confirmed that the Global Alliance for Energy Efficiency is witnessing great interest from countries, with the number reaching 40 countries, while there is a strong desire from banks and the private sector to join the alliance, pointing out that there will be a ministerial meeting on the sidelines of the Governments Summit next month to discuss the latest developments. Al Olama indicated that Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week focuses on harnessing artificial intelligence to solve issues in the energy sector, especially with the spread of data centers across the country, whose number has reached 65. He said: «We have conducted a comprehensive study of the existing centers and those under construction and are working on formulating a clear strategy to manage the expansion of data centers and how to support them with the energy and water they need to operate».
