Data released by the Statistical Center of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states show that international tourism revenues in GCC countries reached $120.2 billion in 2024, an increase of 39.6% compared to 2019 and 8.9% compared to 2023. The GCC's share of global tourism revenues rose to 7.5%. This data reflects the continued strong performance of inbound tourism to GCC countries in 2024, recording significant growth in visitor numbers, revenues, and jobs, which enhances the sector's role as a key driver of economic diversification and GDP support. The 'Travel and Tourism in GCC Countries 2024' report, issued by the Center, indicates that the total number of international tourists to the GCC reached 72.2 million in 2024, achieving a 51.5% growth compared to 2019 and a 6.1% increase compared to 2023. The region's market share of global tourism grew to 5.2%, reflecting a recovery that exceeds pre-pandemic levels, driven by expanded air connectivity, visa facilitation, and diverse tourism products. The data also shows increasing diversity in source markets for tourists; the Middle East region accounted for 18.8% of total inbound tourists, followed by Europe at 14.6% and Asia-Pacific at 14.5%, indicating the region's growing appeal beyond intraregional tourism and rising demand from long-haul markets. Intraregional tourism between GCC countries constituted 41.3% of total international tourists, with an average annual growth of 51.2% during the 2019–2024 period, reflecting the success of GCC tourism integration initiatives, ease of movement, and joint events. The increase in demand has led to expansion in the sector's infrastructure, with the total number of hotel establishments in the GCC reaching 11,200, comprising approximately 711,500 rooms. In light of achieving implementation rates ranging from 56% to 78% of the GCC Tourism Strategy 2030 targets, the region is well-positioned to continue its growth, particularly with a focus on cultural, environmental, business, and MICE tourism.
