
Dubai Future Foundation (DFF) has announced the collaboration of Emirates Airline, Amazon, Careem, and GEMS Education under the Gig Economy Sandbox initiative. This partnership aims to develop regulations that facilitate the growth of the gig economy in the region. The announcement was made during an event at Emirates Towers, attended by Sandbox Dubai partners and officials from local regulatory bodies and government entities.
The Gig Economy Sandbox initiative focuses on creating regulations tailored to sectors requiring seasonal workers such as retail, hospitality, tourism, aviation, education, transport, and logistics. The platform enables cooperation between government and private sector entities to develop regulations and legislation that help businesses adapt to new trends and technologies.
His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Dubai Future Foundation, recently approved the Sandbox Dubai initiative as part of Dubai Economic Agenda (D33). Sandbox Dubai is a platform dedicated to enhancing Dubai's legislative and regulatory environment to meet future demands.
Khalifa AlQama, Executive Director of Sandbox Dubai, highlighted the role of private sector partners in shaping Dubai's future-ready city. AlQama expressed the team's commitment to collaborating with public and private sector partners to explore opportunities for future development in key sectors of Dubai.
Oliver Grohmann, Executive Vice President Human Resources for Emirates Group, expressed support for the initiative, emphasizing its alignment with the objectives of advancing new sectors and fostering a future-ready knowledge-based economy. Grohmann mentioned the enthusiasm surrounding the possibilities that the Gig Economy Sandbox initiative brings to promote innovation and broaden the talent pool in Dubai.
Ronaldo Mouchawar, Vice President of Amazon Middle East, Africa, and Turkey, shared excitement about partnering with the Dubai Future Foundation on the Sandbox Dubai Initiative. Mouchawar emphasized leveraging Amazon's global expertise and technology to pilot programs that enhance economic productivity, drive innovation, and elevate customer experience in Dubai.
Andro Valdes, VP Operations at Careem Technologies, highlighted how the Sandbox Dubai initiative accelerates the adoption of emerging technologies by facilitating collaboration between public and private sectors to iterate and adapt regulatory practices.
