New Toll Gates Open in Dubai to Reduce Traffic

Salik Company PJSC has announced the activation of toll gates at the Business Bay Crossing and Al Safa South on Sheikh Zayed Road, following the completion of the Al Khail Road Development Project by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).

The new toll gates are expected to bring significant traffic benefits to Dubai. The Al Safa South toll gate is projected to reduce right-turn traffic from Sheikh Zayed Road to Al Meydan Street by 15% and decrease traffic from Al Meydan and Al Safa Streets to Sheikh Zayed Road by approximately 1,070 vehicles per hour, marking a 42% reduction.

Global consultants have recommended the installation of toll gates at Business Bay Crossing and Al Safa South. The aim is to maintain traffic service levels, accommodate traffic volumes, and regulate density across the road network and intersections.

The activation of the toll gates serves as part of a larger master plan to enhance and integrate road networks, public transport lines, and intelligent road systems in Dubai. The Business Bay Crossing toll gate, for instance, is expected to divert traffic from Jebel Ali towards Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and Emirates Road, thereby reducing traffic on Al Khail Road and Al Rebat Street by significant percentages.

The toll gates at Business Bay Crossing and Al Safa South align with Dubai's transport policies to improve traffic flow, reduce reliance on private vehicles, and encourage the use of public transportation. These policies aim to optimize the usage of various road corridors and distribute traffic efficiently across the city.

To achieve these goals, the recent project included the construction of five bridges extending 3,300 meters and the expansion of 6,820 meters of road lanes across seven different locations along Al Khail Road – Al Jaddaf, Business Bay, Zaabeel, Meydan, Al Quoz 1, Ghadir Al Tair, and Jumeirah Village Circle.
