The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai has conducted three major road improvements on Sheikh Zayed Road aimed at increasing traffic flow and improving road efficiency. The works include increasing the distance of the service road between the entrance from the service road and the exit towards Al Safa Street and Dubai Mall with the aim of improving traffic flow and reducing congestion on this key section.
One of the aspects of the improvements involves expanding the distance of the service road between Umm Al Sheif street and Al Manara street in the direction of Abu Dhabi, as well as adding an additional lane for vehicles heading to Al Manara street. These upgrades are expected to increase the traffic capacity in this direction by 30%, effectively improving the entry and exit processes.
The second improvement includes modifications at the exit from the service road near the Shangri-La hotel, leading to the first interchange on Sheikh Zayed Road near Dubai Mall. The third improvement proposes increasing the distance of the service roads between Al Marabea Street and Al Manara Street in the direction of Abu Dhabi.
Abdullah Luta, Director of Roads Operations and Facilities at the Transport and Roads Agency, noted: "RTA pays significant attention to improving the road network, and Sheikh Zayed Road is one of the priorities. This improvement is focused on reducing congestion at key sections of the road, shortening wait times, and ultimately, improving transport flow during peak hours."
Sheikh Zayed Road plays a key role as an important transport corridor of the emirate, surrounded by residential areas and major commercial and financial establishments, such as the Dubai International Financial Center, Burj Khalifa, and Dubai Mall, as well as numerous global corporations, banks, and investment enterprises. It also serves as a hub for numerous hotels and entertainment establishments, making it a vital artery for daily commuting and commercial activities.
