Dubai Set to Launch Revolutionary Aerial Taxi Service

Dubai is preparing to unveil its innovative aerial taxi service, enhancing urban mobility with electric vehicles that promise zero emissions, safety, and quick connectivity. Scheduled for rollout in 2026, this initiative marks a significant step towards a sustainable future.

Dubai Set to Launch Revolutionary Aerial Taxi Service

Dubai plans to amaze residents and guests with an incredible experience in the field of air transport, inviting everyone to participate in a dialogue about the future of clean, quiet, and efficient air mobility. The air taxi is a key element of Dubai's autonomous mobility strategy, complemented by other critically important components of the strategy, such as the metro, buses, and taxis. This important step represents the continuation of a partnership agreement with Skyports Infrastructure - a UK-based company specializing in infrastructure for air transport, and Joby Aviation, a leader in the production of air transport solutions from the USA.

The prototype of the air taxi, presented on this floor of the "Tomorrow, Today" museum, demonstrates Dubai's vision of smart, sustainable transport and its commitment to the autonomous mobility strategy of the city. The initiative for air taxis represents a legal framework for Dubai’s transport transformation with the goal of achieving 25% autonomous trips by 2030.

The uniqueness of the air taxi lies in its ability to take off and land vertically while adhering to high safety standards, ensuring the well-being of passengers. The project is planned for launch in the first quarter of 2026.

Majed Al Mansoori, Executive Director of the Museum of the Future, stated: "The Museum of the Future has become a home for the prototype of the air taxi, reflecting Dubai's leading role in shaping the future transport industry. Supporting global sustainable development goals, the project utilizing advanced electric propulsion technology aims to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases."

Khaled Al Awadhi, Director of Transport Systems at RTA, noted: "We are proud to represent the air taxi model at the Museum of the Future, which embodies Dubai's ambitions and a forward-looking approach to redefining mobility in this dynamic city." The air taxi operation is planned to launch in the first quarter of 2026.

Anthony Khoury, Managing Director of Joby in the UAE, noted: "This is an opportunity to present our electric air taxi to the community through this exhibition in the museum, which is committed to developing a more sustainable future for all." Thanks to this initiative, Dubai will become the first city in the world to offer air taxi services through an expanded network of vertical takeoff and landing aircraft.

The Joby S4 air taxi initiative reflects advanced electric aviation technologies. By leveraging multimodal transport integration, enhancing connectivity throughout the city, and offering seamless travel solutions, the air taxi aims to transform urban mobility in Dubai. The first airport with an annual capacity of 42,000 takeoffs for air taxis and the ability to serve approximately 170,000 passengers will be equipped with modern amenities, aligning with the highest global safety standards.
