The premiere of the ballet "La Bayadère" in the Dubai Opera captivates viewers with its fairy tale beauty and profound drama. The music in the performance by the orchestra reflected a variety of emotions, oscillating between strength and tranquility. The atmosphere of the spectacle was imbued with Indian culture through costumes and adornments.
The first scenes transport viewers to a sacred forest, where dances and Indian attire take place. The depicted love between the characters Solor and Nikia challenges the Great Brahma, who tries to kill Solor. The dramatic twist of fate estranges the beloveds from each other, illustrating Solor's courtship of the princess Gamzati, whom he does not love, but to whom he is forced to marry.
The aesthetics of the spectacle was supported by magnificent decor featuring the imprint of Marika Khali and costumes by Joseph Yelinok. More than 150 outfits were presented, among which were light and non-burdensome. The director Yaroslav Slavitsky added his creative approach to the classical history of ballet, preserving the legendary concept of Marius Petipa.
Maria Radachovskaya, the artistic director of the ensemble, noted that the ballet is one of the classical masterpieces, which was first presented back in 1877. Radachovskaya emphasized the Indian inspiration in the costumes and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to perform at the Dubai Opera stage.
The ballet features 60 dancers from all over the world, including stars of ballet. The preparation for the presentation was full of complexities; however, the main task was to demonstrate a high level of mastery in dance. Paolo Petruccelli, the president of Dubai Opera, expressed admiration for the presented ballet, underscoring its uniqueness and beauty.
Although "La Bayadère" was first presented over a hundred years ago, it remains one of the greatest works of classical ballet. The plot with the dances and the exoticism reflects a variety of feelings—from love and tradition to change and jealousy.
