The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai announced the completion of the construction of 40 designated pickup zones for motorcycle couriers, strategically located throughout the emirate. This initiative aims to improve road safety, enhance the quality of life for delivery personnel, and provide them with comfortable amenities while waiting for new orders, RTA reported.
"The implementation of pickup zones is a manifestation of RTA's commitment to providing a safe and convenient environment for the operation of motorcycle couriers, especially in light of the significant growth observed in the delivery sector in recent years," said H.E.
According to Mattar Al Tayer, the number of motorcycle delivery companies in Dubai reached 2,535, while the total number of delivery motorcycles as of the end of June last year amounted to 46,600, hence the project has key significance for reducing road-transport incidents and ensuring compliance with road traffic regulations.
The pickup zones are structured to minimize the impact of sunlight and provide comfort, with designated spots for pickups accommodating up to 10 people and equipped with parking spaces for motorcycles.
The locations of these pickup zones were determined based on a thorough analysis of operational data and requests for delivery services; they were placed in key areas such as Al Hessa St, Al Barsha Heights, Al Barsha, Al Karama, Riggat-Al-Butain, Umm-Suqeim (Jumeirah 3), Jumeirah (Al-Vasly-roud), Green Zones, Dubai Exhibition Center, Al Rashidiya, Satwa, Nad-Al-Hamar, Al Nahda, Oud-Metah, Arabian Ranches, International City, Business Bay, Dubai Marina, Al-Jaddaf, Mirdif, Exit from Al-Havaniage, Dubai Motor City, and Al-Gharhood, RTA reported.
RTA also launched the "Excellence Award for Delivery Services" in 2022 to enhance service standards in the sector, and the first winners will be recognized in 2024. Preparations for the second edition this year are already underway, RTA announced. This award aims to highlight excellence in three categories: companies, couriers, and partners, with the goal of stimulating competition, improving service quality, and also increasing safety and professionalism levels in the delivery sector.
