Dr. Aisha Al Kheir, a prominent UAE researcher, has made significant contributions to cultural heritage preservation and educational initiatives in Dubai. Her work includes documenting oral histories and organizing workshops for the preservation of intangible cultural heritage.


Celebrating Dr. Aisha Al Kheir's Contribution to Culture

Doctor Aisha bin Khair grew up in the Shandaga area near the city of Dubai and embarked on a journey through reading, knowledge, and research. Her memory recalls various stages of Khara, different types of boats, and the Shandaga area, Gbayba and kayutat, where ships docked, through which local residents saw the world, following the ships that brought goods from various countries, including newspapers and magazines such as 'Al-Ahram', 'Al-Arabi', 'Al-Musaivaar', 'Akshy-Sagacha', 'An-Nahhar', 'Al-Mavazeen' and others.

Aisha began her path in the world of culture and knowledge after studying reading in one of the schools in Koran, and then she went to a regular school. She serves as a researcher at the National Archive and Library, is among the outstanding Emirati researchers, and makes a significant contribution to the field of oral history through interviews with elderly people, fixing their memories, which represent the memory of the nation and are an important method for preserving and documenting heritage. She is an expert at UNESCO for organizing master classes dedicated to the Protocol on the preservation of intangible cultural heritage of the world, and also the chairwoman of the 'Young Historian Award' committee at the National Archive and Library.

Dr. Aisha received her doctorate in Islamic studies on the Persian Gulf at Exeter University in the United Kingdom, a master’s degree in ethnofunctional studies at San Francisco State University in the USA, and also a Fulbright degree for graduate students doctoral studies. She worked as a lecturer and guest researcher at Harvard University in the Center for Middle Eastern Studies in 2005-2006, was invited to be a member of several committees, including the Cultural and Artistic Council of Dubai and the UNESCO Committee for the safeguarding of intangible cultural heritage.

Aisha bin Khair has been awarded various prizes, including the Rashid Prize for excellence in scientific research in 2005. She was awarded the Emirate Award for culture and creativity in the nomination 'Plastic Wings' in 2024. She has several publications, including 'African influences on music and heritage in Dubai'.
