
The Dubai Culture and Arts Authority announces the holding of a discussion session and a workshop on the impact of reading on children's lives and the translation methods for children's books. This activity is part of the "Dubai for Culture" program, which is included under the initiative "Quality of Life Schools," aligning with the quality of life strategy in Dubai.
The session, which will be moderated by the author Sabah Dibi, will focus on practical methods and approaches that make reading an enriching experience for children and contribute to developing their language and cognitive skills. Additionally, the author and translator Samir Mahfouz will hold a workshop titled "Translating Children's Literature" at Safa Arts and Design Library on May 9.
During the workshop, participants will learn about the basics of children's literature translation and the differences between it and general literature translation. They will also explore effective translation techniques and language styles appropriate for different age groups. Furthermore, there will be an emphasis on common mistakes in translating children's books and practical applications that enhance the participants' skills.
On another note, there will be a session titled "The Role of Reading in Developing a Child's Thinking" to be held at the Public Library of Rashidiya on May 8. The session will include authors and translators Samir Mahfouz, poet Amel Farah, and writer Iman Al-Youssef, where they will discuss the impact of stories on a child's personality development, the role of the family in fostering a love for reading in children, and the importance of teaching reading to children at early developmental stages.
