
Yesterday, the "Fazaa Al-Dawliya" tournament for people with disabilities started, where 78 matches were held during the qualifying stage at the Makhtum Bin Mohammed Hall in the Shabab Al-Ahli Club. The next stage is the semifinals, scheduled for the following Saturday, and the final will take place on Sunday.
Oman national champion in badminton, Amir Yunus, lost the first match against South Korean champion Joon Chan with a score of 0-2. Participants in the tournament include athletes from 30 countries, with the aim of winning tickets to compete in the new world championship, which will take place in Bahrain in February 2026.
The national team consists of three players: Jamal Al-Badawi, Amir Yunus, and Sakham ar-Rashidi, as well as administrator Marwan Al-Hadzh and trainer Aditi Singh.
The trainer of the Portuguese squad, Fernandu Silva, expressed excitement about his team's participation in the tournament and his first visit to Dubai. He characterized the championship as an essential event in the global sports scene for individuals with disabilities and added: "The participation of the best athletes in the tournament is not by chance, it attests to the high reputation of the competitions."
