In Dubai, the 'Wasem' exhibition by artist and calligrapher Wasam Shoukate is open at Takaseem Studio and Gallery in Al Qusais until February 11. The exhibition is part of 'Dubai Culture's' support for local cultural and creative talents, encouraging them to showcase their work to the public. This aligns with the Authority's mission to establish Dubai as a global cultural hub, a cradle of creativity, and a meeting point for talents. During her tour of the exhibition, organized by Takaseem, Hala Al Basti, Director General of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, viewed the collection of artworks and paintings by Wasam Shoukate, which documents his artistic journey spanning over two decades of research and experimentation. 'Dubai Culture' is committed to promoting the art of calligraphy and highlighting its importance as an expressive and aesthetic medium that embodies creativity. Hala Al Basti praised the unique works and ideas presented in the exhibition, which showcase Wasam Shoukate's artistic contributions and his efforts in elevating Arabic calligraphy and enhancing its presence and appeal. She affirmed the Authority's dedication to fostering calligraphy and underscoring its significance. Through repetition, experimentation, and continuous refinement, artist Wasam Shoukate has reinterpreted the principles of these scripts, formulating them within a contemporary calligraphic system that bridges tradition and innovation. The 'Wasem' line draws its forms and roots from various calligraphic schools, including Eastern Kufic, Thuluth, Diwani Jali, and Ottoman Tughra.
