Indian artist Sugata Bajaj returns to Dubai with her abstract exhibition "Cosmic Worlds", marking her first solo show since 2020. The exhibition is set to open at the Alliance Française in Dubai on April 2nd, featuring a collection of works where the artist embarks on an interactive journey through the visual and emotional vastness of the universe. Bridging Paris, Dubai, and India, Sugata continues to embody a transcultural artistic presence based on intuition, experimentation, and a perpetual sense of wonder. The new exhibition draws its inspiration from the breathtaking imagery captured by the James Webb Space Telescope, offering a poetic reading of the cosmos and its perpetual dance between fading stars and comets brought to life on Bajaj's canvases. The artist explores the dialogue between reality and abstraction through a powerful visual language that navigates between scientific observation and boundless imagination, reminding us that art, like a telescope aimed at the sky, reveals the invisible and awakens a sense of awe. Sugata Bajaj stated: "In 2019, I came across an image captured by NASA's Hubble Telescope showing the Andromeda galaxy. The image captivated me without my realizing it, planting the seed for 'Cosmic Worlds.' I knew then that this journey would require new techniques and continuous experimentation. For the next five years, I immersed myself in this new journey. These space-inspired paintings are what I discovered during this phase." Concurrently with the exhibition, a publication will be launched, featuring over 100 full-color paintings along with essays that provide the intellectual and cultural framework for the show.
